Everyone is keeping their eyes on the oil spill in the Gulf right now, and of course rescue teams are working as hard as they can to protect beaches and wildlife that are affected by the petroleum seepage. Matter of Trust, a San Francisco based organization, is joining the fight against oil spills with its Hair for Oil Spills Program, an initiative which helps collect unwanted hair and fur clippings for use in areas where oil needs to be absorbed. Both human and animal hair are known for their oil-absorbing qualities, making your pet's leftover clippings perfect to help out marine life.

Since starting my eco-friendly pet clothing company, Earth's Best Friend, I've started thinking a lot more about my dogs' eco-footprint. In San Francisco and the Bay Area, we hear and think a lot about OUR human footprints – don't use plastic bags, take advantage of public transportation, buy local, recycle, compost, etc. - but it seems there is less focus on greening your dog, but there are a few ways to do it.
