Great Holiday Gift Ideas for Pet Lovers
Many animal lovers I know are all about their pets. In my immediate family, besides me, two of my sisters and my brother are crazy for their critters. I’m happy for them and their pets, but coming up with gifts for the critter lover can be a bit of a challenge.
Holiday Pet Gift Ideas: Stockings for your Best Friend
Obviously during the holidays you want to include your pets in all the festivities as much as you possibly can. After all, most of us consider our pets as family members, and we try to make that evident in holiday celebrations. Not every pet enjoys the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, though, and for some pets all the people, noise, and lights can be downright traumatic. But some nice treats or toys on Christmas morning can make it all better, and what pet doesn't like to get its favorite treats?
Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation's Giving Tree
There are many ways to help out animals in the community during the holiday season. Donations are always welcome and shelters and other non-profit organizations, of course, but you can go one step further by helping to organize some fundraising of your own, on behalf of dogs and cats who desperately need support.
The Kindness of Strangers
As this year winds down, I find myself reflecting on the triumphs and trials, the blessings and burdens. At the moment, my home is dressed up in sparkling lights and the aroma of baking cookies scents the air. My stepson’s playing a video game, my husband’s taking a turn at cooking dinner, and our pets are napping contentedly in their respective favorite spots. Vinnie’s claimed the sofa, Ted’s king of his cat bed and Thomas, our tortoise rests under his blanket.
The Gift of a Pet
When I was walking my puppies (yes, plural! I have two five-month-old beagle puppies) the other day, a woman asked me how many times I had to walk them. I explained that I only take them on a couple walks a day, but I also take them to the dog park every day, and bring them out to go to the bathroom about once every hour or so (providing they're awake).
Beautiful Black Cat
Ted's sprawled out on the floor of my home basking in a patch of sunlight. He takes full advantage of these balmy autumn days, moving from one sunny spot to another as if he were drawn to them magnetically. He looks regal and elegant, nothing like the scrawny two-pound kitten he was when I adopted him years ago from San Francisco's Animal Care and Control.
