Hitch a Ride with San Francisco's Pet Taxi

Two Dogs Sit in a Car in a Berkeley Parking Lot

Warning: please do not try this at home. . .

I lived for a long time in the city without a car, and I loved it. No worrying about parking, driving, insurance, tickets, etc. But it did make it a little more complicated when I got puppies. We started taking them on the bus when they were around eight weeks old, but that was much easier when they were smaller, less noisy, and more easily entertained. Sometimes cabs will take you with your dog – especially if they're small. But I have two and – although small – they are quite rambunctious. If you're in a similar situation as mine, and without a car, you're probably looking for that perfect solution to get to the vet, a choice park, or somewhere else where you'd like to take your dog with you.

Pet Taxi could be your answer. If you don't want to risk hailing a cab that may not take you and your dog, or if you're not sure how your pooch will behave – or how the cabbie will behave! - having a taxi specifically designated for you and your dog seems like a pretty good idea! Pet Taxi will also take your pooch around town without you, if they need to go to a vet or grooming appointment while you're at work.

One drawback to this Taxi service is that they're only open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., so they're more for scheduled appointments and that sort of thing. If you're out with your dog after a long night of partying, Pet Taxi might not be the way to go. Although, apparently, they do have someone to answer the phone, and can send a taxi out – but it'll cost you. Good to keep in mind in an emergency, but probably not the most practical first choice!

A little about InCirclePets.com: We're a little site that highlights locally-owned pet businesses, non-profits and organizations as well as pet-friendly activities. We think the Bay Area is an amazing spot in which to have an animal, yet we know that many hidden gems go unnoticed and local spots may not get the attention they deserve. We hope to fill in this gap. If you think we could be doing things better, send us an email . Click here to learn more about us.
