National Puppy Day is March 23rd!

There really could not be a happier day than National Puppy Day , celebrating puppies of all kinds, and bringing awareness to the need for permanent homes and population control. It's no secret that puppy orphans are a continuing problem all over the country, and part of the solution of reducing the number of homeless puppies is to control the amount of puppies that are being added to the population. A big part of the focus of National Puppy Day is to increase education about puppy mills, and to decrease the number of puppies that are sold in pet stores. There are so many loving animals in shelters and foster care, and there has to be a priority to get those animals in permanent homes.
So how can you help? Well, the Animal Miracle Foundation & Network (the parent organization behind National Puppy Day) encourages people to organize local events, and get involved on a local level in any way possible. The goal of the day is to find permanent homes for 10,000 puppies, but another year-round goal is to raise money and awareness. You can even help by taking part in the puppy beauty pageant, a photo contest where the proceeds help the Animal Miracle Foundation continue their important work.
Also, if you're feeling down or having a bad day, there's a "puppy theatre" section of the National Puppy Day web site, and it's basically every cute puppy video from YouTube, all on one convenient page. The "awwww" factor is truly phenomenal. I have the page bookmarked now, and I hope they keep adding videos to it as new levels of puppy cuteness are discovered.
