Green your pooch
Since starting my eco-friendly pet clothing company, Earth's Best Friend, I've started thinking a lot more about my dogs' eco-footprint. In San Francisco and the Bay Area, we hear and think a lot about OUR human footprints – don't use plastic bags, take advantage of public transportation, buy local, recycle, compost, etc. - but it seems there is less focus on greening your dog, but there are a few ways to do it.My first suggestion is to consider how you clean up your pooch's waste. If you – like many Bay Area residents – don't have your own yard, chances are you're going through poop bags in the neighborhood of several a day. If you're truly dedicated, you can pick up their waste in something headed for the recycling bin – like a piece of newspaper – and drop it in the toilet.
For others of us, you may simply want to consider the types of bags you're using. Many of the bags sold in pet stores aren't as bio-degradable as they claim to be. If you think about it, ANYTHING is biodegradable, given an infinite timeline! Instead, you may want to opt for bags that will decompose quickly – usually they're based in soy, corn, or some sort of combination.Stay tuned for other quick tips for making your dog more eco-friendly!
